Our Story

How We Met

The same way a good portion of couples do nowadays, online, on a dating site.

David message Fiona first, with an actual conversation starter opening message and not the same copy and paste reddit spiel Fiona had got from others. After messaging back and forth online for a few days, David asked Fiona out for a coffee date and they exchanged numbers, deciding to meet for a first date on December 6th 2014.

On the day, Fiona was running late but still managed to pop into M&S for cookies for David to try, since he’d never had them before. Meeting outside trinity’s front gate, Fiona mentioned the downstairs of the near by costa coffee would be a quiet place to talk and have coffee, hot chocolate for Fiona. She didn’t drink coffee back then, and was rightly judged for it.

Hours were spent talking about everything and nothing, about designing houses with secret passage ways, what they wanted out of relationships, both heavy and light topics for a first date. Though David never took a bite of the cookies.

Noticing how long had passed and the fact it was dark out, David walked Fiona to her bus stop (the old 25 bus stop on Suffolk street) where they had their first kiss right as Fionas bus arrived. Fiona argues she kissed David first, David argues that he kissed her first.

The Proposal

Friday 17th of May, David told Fiona he needed to go into town to help a friend with a work related issue. She even offered to drive him as the traffic was awful that day, slightly panicked he said no it was okay and he’d see her later.

What he actually was doing was heading to Bespoke Diamonds jewelers to collect the engagement ring he designed, which he had started back in February. When he returned home, ring secured in his bag with Fiona none the wiser, they settled in for an evening of dungeon runs with Friends in World of Warcraft as Mists of Pandaria remix had just launched.

Later that same evening, on the 18th of May 2025, at approximately 1am in the morning, David proposed to Fiona on the balcony of their apartment. She had no idea he had planned to propose.
